WAYNE, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a dominating 10-1 victory over Valley Forge Military Academy on Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman
Sam Gaye (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) scored 4 goals and had 2 assists as the Spartans jumped out to a 5-1 halftime lead and then tacked on 5 more goals in the second stanza. "We started slow today," remarked 2nd year Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "it was 1-1 at the halfway point of the first half, but then we seemed to find our rhythm and never looked back."
Joey Jacona (/East Stroudsburg South ) added 3 goals,
Baidy Ba (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) recorded a goals and 2 assists and
Colin Marsden (/Palisades) and
Aaron Timbe (/Larkin (IL)) added scores for Northampton, which had its highest offensive output since joining the NJCAAÂ in 2010.
Kenan Meral (/Liberty ) recorded 10 saves, allowing only one goal, while picking up his 2nd victory of the season.
Gaye's 4 goals ties the Northampton record for goals in game, while his 2 assists also ties a school record for assists in a game.
Northampton hosts Delaware County Community College (1-3-0) on Thursday at 3:30pm.
Valley Forge fell to 0-3-0 with the loss.
