Spartans Win 5th Straight, Down Montgomery 77-34

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team won their 5th straight game, downing conference rival Montgomery County Community College, 77-34, on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.

Tytiona Goodwin (Allentown, PA /Dieruff) scored 15 points and recorded 6 steals as the Spartans notched 26 steals as a team, forcing Montgomery into 40 turnovers.  "I thought our defense was the key to the game," remarked Head Coach Tara Belfield, "we didn't shoot particularly well tonight (40%), but we did a good job limiting them to one shot and held them to 19% shooting from the field."

Zeniyah Sanders (Northampton, PA/Northampton ), Amber Farnholtz (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) and Jenesa Fields (Brodheadsville, PA /Pleasant Valley) all reached double figures in rebounding, with 12, 10 and 10 respectively.  Kye Adams (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) was the only other Spartan in double figures, with 13, while Julia Craig (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) added 6 assists.

The victory pushes Northampton to 14-3 overall, 12-1 in Region XIX and 8-0 in EPAC play.

Montgomery falls to 3-12 overall, 3-10 in Region XIX and 3-5 in conference.

The Spartans travel to Ocean County College on Thursday to face the Vikings at 5pm in Toms River, NJ.
