Yaguez Breaks All-Time Northampton Win Mark as Spartans Sweep

HARRISBURG, Pa.- Northampton Head Coach Adrian Yaguez became the winningest volleyball coach in school history on Saturday as the Spartans downed Harrisburg Area Community College 3-0, giving Yaguez 152 victories, surpassing Hall of Famer Kathy Carbone (151-70).

Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) had 17 kills and 5 digs, Taylor Frisoli (Bath, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) had 8 kills, Alysce Molchan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) recorded 30 assists and Kalli Walling (Saylorsburg, PA /Pleasant Valley) and Megan Crimi (Nazareth, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) each registered 16 digs as the Spartans swept Harrisburg 25-15, 25-11, 25-14.  The victory moved Northampton to 17-1 overall and 10-0 in conference play, while Harrisburg dropped to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in EPAC play. 

Yaguez added his 153rd victory later in the day when Northampton defeated Valley Forge Military College 25-8, 25-15, 25-7, giving him a career record of 153-15 (91%).  Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) had 14 kills, Emily Petrat (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) had 7 kills, Jessica Omick (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) added 3 kills and Amanda Cooper (Bangor, Pa/Faith Christian ) had 8 digs for the Spartans.  Northampton improved to 18-1 overall and 11-0 in conference play, while Valley Forge falls to 4-6 overall. 

"I want to congratulate Coach Yaguez on breaking the all-time wins record," commented Director of Athletics Troy Tucker, "He has done a tremendous job for us during his 5+ seasons, turning the program into a perennial national contender, leading us to 4 straight EPAC championships and 4 consecutive Region XIX titles."

In addition to his incredible overall record, Yaguez is an amazing 81-1 in Region XIX competition during his tenure, losing his only regular season Region XIX match almost 5 years ago (October 17, 2011).  

The Spartans will return to action on October 4th when they host Montgomery County Community College at 7pm.
