SYRACUSE, NY - The Northampton volleyball team captured the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament title hosted by Onondaga Community College on Saturday evening, downing Monroe Community College in the championship match. The Spartans went 6-0 on the weekend to claim the title for the 3rd time in four seasons.
The Spartans opened play on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Jefferson Community College (NY), dropping the first set 20-25, and trailing in the second set 21-23, before rallying for a 26-24 win and then taking the 3rd set in convincing fashion, 15-5 for the match victory.
Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) had 16 kills and 13 digs and
Emily Petrat (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) added 8 kills and
Alysce Molchan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) recorded 29 assists in the win.
In match two on Friday, the Spartans downed Cayuga Community College (NY) 2-0, winning 25-7, 25-14 as
Rachael Caywood (Bath, PA/Nazareth ) had 3 kills and
Bridget Lozier (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) added 3 kills and 2 blocks.
Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) had 7 kills and 12 digs for Northampton.
Saturday morning the Spartans opened play vs. host Onondaga, downing the Lazers 2-1 (25-21, 16-25, 15-12) behind Shelly's 9 kills and 15 digs and 19 digs from
Kalli Walling (Saylorsburg, PA /Pleasant Valley).
Bridget Lozier (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) added 8 kills and
Alysce Molchan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) had 27 assists.
The Spartans remained undefeated in pool play in match four, downing nemesis Monroe Community College 25-18, 25-5 as
Laura Sweger (Elizabethville, PA /Upper Dauphin ) recorded 5 kills and 5 blocks and
Emily Petrat (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) notched 4 kills and 4 digs.
Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) added 10 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs and 2 blocks.
After drawing a bye for the first round of the single elimination playoff portion of the tournament, the Spartans drew Broome Community College (NY) and knocked off the Hornets 25-10, 25-18 to advance to the tournament championship game.

Bridget Lozier (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) had 7 kills and 8 digs and
Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) added 8 kills and 14 digs for Northampton.
The Spartans drew Monroe Community College in the title match and downed the Tribunes 25-17, 25-18 to claim their 3rd Cara Bryant Tournament Title in four tries. Tournament MVP

The Spartans will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Bucks County Community College for a 7pm showdown with the Centurions.
