Box Score NEWTOWN, Pa. - Trailing by 16 at halftime, Bucks County Community College roared out of the locker room, scoring on 7 of their first 9 possessions to get back in the game and eventually downing Northampton 79-76 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans led by 2 with 1:30 remaining in regulation, but a lack of execution and missed free throws down the stretch allowed the Centurions to force overtime. "It was a tale of two halves today," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we played well in the first half ... we executed offensively and played very well on the defensive end. Second half, we did not play with the same energy and Bucks took advantage of it. Shots that we made in the first half didn't fall in the second half and defensively we gave up too many open looks."
Bryson Walton (Allentown, PA /William Allen ) finished with a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while
Tyerell Mann (East Stroudsburg, PA /Notre Dame - East Stroudsburg ) had a team-high 19 points.
Alquinton McNeil (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) added 13 points as the Spartans finished just under 50% from the field at 48% (27/56), but once again struggled at the charity stripe, converting only 16 of 26 attempts.
Edwin Lopez (East Stroudsburg, PA /Stroudsburg ) had 7 rebounds and 7 assists for Northampton, which now must win its final two games to qualify for the postseason.
The loss drops Northampton to 11-12 overall, 9-12 in Region XIX and 9-8 in conference play.
Bucks improves to 12-10 overall, 10-10 in Region XIX and 9-6 in the EPAC.
