NANTICOKE, Pa. - The Northampton baseball team, ranked 8th in the country in the latest NJCAA poll, combined timely hitting and solid pitching to down Luzerne County Community College, 8-0, on Thursday afternoon at Carlin Park.
The Spartans used six pitchers, who combined to throw a 1-hit shutout.
Tristan James (Towanda, PA/Towanda Area) was credited with the win, going 3 innings, allowing no runs, 1 hit and striking out 5, while improving to 4-0 on the season.
Offensively, Northampton pounded out 13 hits, led by
Angel Lopez (Pennsburg, PA/Perkiomen School ) who finished 4 for 5 with a double, 2 homeruns and 5 RBI.
Kyle Buchman (Orefield, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI,
Colton Hooker (Warrington, PA/Upper Moreland ) was 2 for 5 with a double and a RBI and
Roanderson Severino (Reading, PA/Reading ) was 1 for 2 with a stolen base.
Northampton improves to 22-6 overall, 10-3 in Region XIX and 6-0 in EPAC play.
Luzerne falls to 6-11 overall, 4-7 in Region XIX and 2-3 in conference.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they host Middlesex County College in a doubleheader, before heading to Lincroft, NJ on Sunday to face Brookdale.
