BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball team, ranked 8th in the country, ran their winning streak to four games with a hard-fought doubleheader sweep of upstart Middlesex County College on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Park.
GAME ONE (Won 6-3)
In game one, the Spartans used the relief pitching of
Tristan James (Towanda, PA/Towanda Area) and some timely hitting in the 5th inning to earn the 6-3 victory. James came on in relief of starter
Tyler Forbes (Athens, PA/Athens Area ), going 2.1 innings, allowing 1 hit, no runs and striking out 4, earning his 5th victory of the season, as the Colts had tied the game 3-3 in the top of the 5th inning.
In the bottom of the 5th,
Ryan Nazario (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South ) walked, stole second and scored on a RBI double from
Angel Lopez (Pennsburg, PA/Perkiomen School ) to put the Spartans up 4-3.
Collin McGeary (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic ) then singled to score Lopez, stole second and scored on a RBI single from
Cody Herestofa (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley ) to make it 6-3. McGeary finished 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, including a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 3rd, which had put Northampton up 3-1.
GAME TWO (Won 3-1)
Pitcher
Tyler Caraway (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades ) led the way for the Spartans in game two, going 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, striking out 6.
Kyle Arganbright (York, PA/Hempfield ) earned the save, with .1 innings of scoreless work. The Spartans were able to pull out the 3-1 victory, despite managing only one hit in the game.
Northampton got on the board in the bottom of the 1st on a RBI groundout to second base by
Colton Hooker (Warrington, PA/Upper Moreland ), scoring
Kyle Buchman (Orefield, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) who had walked to lead off the inning, and then advanced to 2nd and 3rd on two separate wild pitches. In the bottom of the 3rd,
Angel Lopez (Pennsburg, PA/Perkiomen School ) walked with two outs and went from 1st to 3rd on a passed ball and then scored on a wild pitch. Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the 6th,
Jake Lisinicchia (Easton, PA/Easton ) walked with two outs, stole second and then scored on Northampton's only hit, a RBI double from
Aaron Gentry (Reading, PA/Exeter).
The sweep pushes Northampton to 24-6 overall and 12-3 in Region XIX.
Middlesex falls to 22-14 overall and 11-8 in Region XIX.
Northampton makes the trip to Lincroft, NJ on Sunday to face the Jersey Blues in a doubleheader, slated to start at 12pm.
