LINCROFT, NJ - 5th ranked Brookdale Community College swept 8th ranked Northampton in a Region XIX doubleheader on Sunday, taking game one 6-5 in 8 innings and game two 9-2.

GAME ONE (Lost 6-5 8 innings)
Trailing 5-0 entering the top of the 5th inning, Northampton scored 4 runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Colton Hooker (Warrington, PA/Upper Moreland ) and Aaron Gentry (Reading, PA/Exeter), to cut the margin to 5-4.  The Spartans were able to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the 6th inning as Collin McGeary (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic ) drove in Ryan Nazario (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South ), who led off the inning with a single. Both teams went scoreless in the 7th to push the game to extra innings.  

Northampton had their first two batters reach base in the top of the 8th, with Nazario reaching on a walk and Angel Lopez (Pennsburg, PA/Perkiomen School ) getting on via an error, but the Spartans were unable to capitalize.  Brookdale's Joe Orender doubled to lead off the inning, followed by a single which put runners at 1st and 3rd with no outs.  Tristan James (Towanda, PA/Towanda Area) recorded a strikeout and then induced a pop-up to shallow right field, which was caught by second baseman Jake Pacheco (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) for the second out of the inning.  The relay in from shallow right, skipped away from catcher Angel Lopez (Pennsburg, PA/Perkiomen School ), allowing Orender to score from third base with the winning run. 

James took the loss in relief, going 2.2 innings, allowing 1 run, 2 hits and striking out 2.  Aaron Gentry (Reading, PA/Exeter) finished 2 for 4 with a RBI, Roanderson Severino (Reading, PA/Reading ) was 2 for 3 and Kyle Buchman (Orefield, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) was 1 for 3 with a double to lead Northampton. 

GAME TWO (Lost 9-2)
Brookdale jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in game two and cruised to a 9-2 victory, pounding out 12 hits.  The Spartans got on the board in the 4th inning and then added a run in the 6th as Liam Grande (Trappe, PA/Perkiomen Valley ) hit a solo homerun.  Roanderson Severino (Reading, PA/Reading ) was 1 for 3 with a double, Ryan Nazario (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South ) was 1 for 3 as the Spartans only managed 4 hits in the game and committed 5 errors in the loss. Brendon Caraway (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) took the loss, working 1.2 innings, allowing 7 runs on 7 hits, walking 3 and striking out 1.  Carlos Solis (Allentown, PA/William Allen ) came on in relief, throwing 3.2 innings, allowing 2 runs, 5 hits and striking out 1. 

The Spartans fall to 24-8 with the loss and 12-5 in Region XIX.

Brookdale improves to 30-8 overall and 12-3 in Region XIX. 

Northampton travels to Schnecksville, PA on Tuesday to try and clinch the EPAC championship as they face Lehigh Carbon at 4pm.
