BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Sophomore forward
Sam Gaye (Bath, PA/Northampton ) scored twice to help lead the Northampton men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Montgomery County Community College on Thursday afternoon.
Gaye, who now has 7 goals on the season, scored his first goal with 4 minutes remaining in the half to give Northampton a 1-0 lead at the break. Gaye found the back of the net again, just 8 minutes into the second half, to put the Spartans up 2-0. Igor McVeagh scored for the Mustangs 16 minutes into the second stanza to cut the margin to 2-1, but
Majed Salama (Allentown, PA/Catasauqua ) closed the door with an insurance goal with 12 minutes remaining to make the final score 3-1.
"Not our best effort, but a quality win," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "I feel that we have been a little sluggish the last couple of games, but we have found ways to win ... now our focus needs to be on preparing for Ocean County College."
Kenan Meral (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) made 5 saves in the victory, allowing only his 2nd goal of the season.
The victory moves Northampton to 5-0-0 on the season, while Montgomery falls to 1-4-1.
