NEWTON, NJ - The Northampton men's soccer team never got on track Thursday afternoon, falling behind 3-0 at halftime and eventually losing to Sussex County Community College, 6-1 in a GSAC/EPAC crossover matchup.
Joey Jacona (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South ) scored Northampton's only goal off an assist from
Aaron Timbe (Elgin, IL/Larkin (IL)) and
Kenan Meral (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) made 8 saves between the pipes to lead the Spartans. "Sussex had a very strong attack," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we made several adjustments, but just could not find the right combination to slow them down. We had some good offensive opportunities in the first half but couldn't convert and then going down 3-0 to a team of this caliber really puts you in tough spot."
The loss drops Northampton to 8-2-0 overall and 8-2-0 in Region XIX.
Sussex improves to 6-3-0 overall and 5-3-0 in Region XIX.
The Spartans are now off until October 4th when they travel to Schnecksville, PA to face Lehigh Carbon at 3:30pm.
