SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The 7th ranked Northampton volleyball team made short work of Lehigh Carbon Community College, sweeping the Cougars 25-6, 25-8, 25-4, on Thursday evening at the Cougar Dome.
The best of five match, which began at 6pm, was finished by 6:50 as the Spartans, coming off their first loss of the season in the championship match of the Butler County Community College Tournament, were all business in downing their cross-town rivals. "We knew we had to come out ready today," remarked Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "I wanted to see how we would respond after Saturday's loss ... I didn't think we were sharp out at Butler, we had too many unforced errors and it cost us. I thought tonight we were a little more crisp, but we still have work to do."
Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) had 9 kills,
Laura Sweger (Elizabethville, PA /Upper Dauphin ) had 6 kills and
Emily Petrat (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) recorded 6 digs for the Spartans. Â
Kalli Walling (Saylorsburg, PA /Pleasant Valley) was credited with 13 digs, while
Alysce Molchan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) had 22 assists, 5 aces and 4 digs.
Northampton, now 8-1 overall and 3-0 in Region XIX, hosts Manor College and Luzerne County Community College this weekend in a tri-match, set to start at noon.Â
Lehigh Carbon falls to 0-7 with the loss.Â
