HARRISBURG, Pa. - Despite outshooting their hosts by a 17-11 margin, the Northampton Men's Soccer team was upset by Harrisburg Area Community College on Tuesday afternoon, 3-1, at Hawk Field.
Andrew Tinna (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) scored Northampton's only goal of the day on a penalty kick in the first half, while Harrisburg found the net twice in the second half to pull away from a 1-1 halftime deadlock.
"Stunned," remarked interim Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy when asked about the defeat, "we had plenty of opportunities, but we simply could not control the ball or hold possession ... we struggled to control the middle of the field and Harrisburg took advantage of it."
Tinna's goal gives him 18 for the season, good for 4th in the NJCAA and tied for 6th all-time in a single season at Northampton.
The loss drops Northampton to 4-6-1 overall, 4-6-1 in Region XIX and 4-4 in conference play.
Harrisburg improves to 3-7-0 overall, 3-7-0 in Region XIX and 3-6-0 in conference.
The Spartans host Delaware County on Thursday at 3:30pm in a must-win scenario as they fight to qualify for the Region XIX playoffs.
