MYRTLE BEACH - The Northampton Baseball team went 1-1 on Tuesday at the Ripken Experience, falling to Onondaga Community College (NY), 10-3, and then rebounding to down Bunker Hill Community College (MA), 10-0.
GAME ONE - Onondaga scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning, but the Spartans responded with 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning as
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley) smashed a 2-run triple. The Lazers added 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd, but Northampton once again responded, as
Angel Lopez (Santurce, PR/Perkiomen School) hit a solo homerun to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Onondaga held the Spartans scoreless over the last 4 innings, tacking on 6 runs to earn the 10-3 victory, giving Northampton (3-1) their first loss of the season. Melko finished 2 for 2 with 2 RBI,
Franklin Ramirez (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) was 2 for 4 and Lopez finished 1 for 3 to pace Northampton. Starter Zach Conley took the loss, going 2 innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 earned runs, while striking out 2.
Braedon Rybak (East St. Paul, CND/International (CND)) finished the contest, allowing 6 hits and 6 runs over the final 5 innings.
GAME TWO - The Spartan offense exploded in game two vs. Bunker Hill, pounding out 12 hits and scoring 10 runs in a 5-inning run-rule shortened contest. Lopez (3-4) hit his second homerun of the day, Ramirez stayed hot, finishing 2 for 4 and Michael Ferrara was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI.
Liam Grande (Trappe, PA/Perkiomen Valley) earned the victory on the mound, throwing a complete game 1-hitter, allowing no runs while striking out 8.
The Spartans will wrap up their Spring Trip on Wednesday, facing Genesee Community College (NY) and Bunker Hill (MA), before departing on Thursday morning.
