SYRACUSE, NY - The Northampton Baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Onondaga Community College on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 and 2-1.
GAME ONE - The Lazers scored 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 6th inning off of two Northampton errors, to break a 0-0 deadlock, and held on to take a 2-0 win, despite only getting 3 hits off losing pitcher
Tyler Forbes (Athens, PA/Athens). Forbes (1-1) did not allow an earned run, while striking out 10. The Spartans had 4 hits, led by
Michael Ferrara (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mt. East) who finished 2 for 3,
Angel Lopez (Santurce, PR/Perkiomen School) 1 for 3 and
Cody Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) 1 for 3.
GAME TWO - The second game was more of the same for the Spartans, as Onondaga took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring both runs with 2 outs. Northampton manufactured a run in the top of the 4th, as
Franklin Ramirez (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, went to third on a double by
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley) and eventually scored on a wild pitch. That would be it offensively for both teams, as the Lazers held on for a 2-1 win.
Brendon Caraway (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) was the hard-luck losing pitcher, striking out 7, walking none in 6 innings of work, while only allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run. Ramirez finished 1 for 3, as did Ferrara, while Melko was 1 for 2 as the Spartans had 3 hits.
The doubleheader sweep drops Northampton to 7-3 overall, with all 3 losses at the hands of the Lazers. Onondaga defeated the Spartans 10-3 on March 15th during their spring trip to Myrtle Beach. The Lazers improve to 6-3 on the season.
Northampton returns to action on Tuesday when they are scheduled to travel to Bucks County Community College for a EPAC single-9 inning game at 3:30pm.
