LINCROFT, NJ - The Northampton women's basketball team advanced to the NJCAA Region XIX title game with a 64-56 victory over 3rd seeded Middlesex County College on Saturday afternoon at Collins Arena.
Despite committing 27 turnovers the 2nd seeded Spartans held the lead for over 37 minutes, using a strong first quarter and a dominating performance on the backboards to advance to the third title game in program history. "I didn't think we played particularly well," remarked Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "but we played well enough to win. We didn't shoot well from the floor (33%), from three (8%), or from the line (48%) and we turned it over way too much ... but the girls worked really hard and battled for 40 minutes and earned a trip to the region finals."
Dom Moser (Easton, PA/Easton ) scored 24 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had 3 steals, while
Katie Alvarez (Allentown, PA /Dieruff) added 12 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Spartans.
The Spartans, 19-5 overall, will face #1 seed Brookdale on Sunday at noon at Collins Arena.
