BLUE BELL, Pa. - Sophomore
Cody Herestofa (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a homerun to propel the Northampton Baseball team to a 13-1 victory over Montgomery County Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Lombardo Park.
Herestofa got the Spartans on the board first, hitting a solo homerun in the second inning, and Northampton tacked on a run in the 3rd and 4th, before plating 3 runs in the 5th to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Montgomery got their only run in the bottom of the 6th, but Northampton responded with 7 in the top of the 7th to earn the run-rule shortened game, 13-1.
Zach Conley (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) earned the win, going 6 innings striking out 3, allowing 3 hits and 1 run.
Garrett Alread (Victor, NY/Victor Central (NY)) came on in relief and slammed the door, allowing no hits and striking out 1 in an inning of work.
Franklin Ramirez (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) was 2 for 4 with a double,
Cody Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI,
Angel Lopez (Santurce, PR/Perkiomen School) hit his 6th homerun of the season,
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley) finished 3 for 5 and
Zane Vargason (Milan, PA/Athens) was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
The victory was the 8th straight for Northampton, which improves to 15-3 overall, 5-0 in Region XIX and 3-0 in the EPAC.
Montgomery falls to 2-6 overall, 1-4 in Region XIX and 1-2 in conference play.
The Spartans, ranked 10th in the latest NJCAA National Poll, host Bucks County Community College on Thursday at 3:30pm.
