BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Tristan "Big Game" James threw a complete game 3-hit shutout to lead 10th ranked Northampton to a 5-0 victory over Lehigh Carbon Community College on Monday afternoon, extending their winning streak to 12 games. James, who improved to 4-0 on the season, went 9 innings, striking out 11 and walking only one.
The Spartans got on the board in the bottom first when
Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School ) reached on an error, advanced to third on a 2-out single from
Cody Herestofa (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) and scored when the Cougars attempted to nail Herestofa stealing second.
The Spartans added a run in the 5th, when Herestofa (2 for 3) scored on a RBI single from
Franklin Ramirez (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic), making the score 2-0.
Northampton added 3 insurance runs in the 6th, as
Angel Lopez (Santurce, PR/Perkiomen School) scored on a RBI fielders choice by
Michael Ferrara (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mt. East). Del Toro then knocked in Ferrara with a 2-run homerun to make the score 5-0.
Ramirez finished 2 for 4 and Lopez was 1 for 4 with a stolen base.
The win, which propels Northampton to 11-0 all-time vs. Lehigh Carbon, moves the Spartans to 19-3 overall, 7-0 in Region XIX and 6-0 in the EPAC.
Lehigh Carbon falls to 12-9 overall, 4-6 in Region XIX and 3-3 in EPAC play.
The Spartans are back at it on Tuesday when they host the Phantoms of Delaware County in a single 9, with the first pitch scheduled for 3:30pm.
