Baseball Stays Hot, Sweeps Corning ... Streak at 7

CORNING, NY - The Northampton Baseball team swept Corning Community College on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader, increasing their winning streak to seven straight games.

GAME ONE - The Spartans jumped out quickly on the Red Barons as Angel Lopez (Santurce, PR/Perkiomen School) smashed a 3-run homerun in the top of the 1st as Northampton plated 6 runs before starting pitcher Tyler Forbes (Athens, PA/Athens) took the mound.  Forbes lasted 2.2 innings, giving up 4 runs on 3 hits, striking out 2 and walking 6, as Corning scored 4 in the 3rd to make it 8-4.

Corning added a run in the 4th and one in the 6th, but Tyler Caraway (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) was able to shut the door in relief of Braedon Rybak (East St. Paul, CND/International (CND)) (who had come in for Forbes), throwing 3 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 2, as Northampton won 8-6.  The win moves Caraway to 4-0 on the season.

Lopez finished 2 for 4 with a double and his 5th homerun of the season, Cody Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) was 2 for 4 and Colton Hooker (Warrington, PA/Upper Moreland) was 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored.

GAME TWO - The second game played out very similar to game one, as the Spartans jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and then held on for a 12-7 victory.  Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School ) got things going for Northampton in the 1st inning, with a bases clearing triple and Franklin Ramirez (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) hit a grand slam in the 3rd, as the Spartans exploded out of the gate.

Tristan James (Towanda, PA/Towanda Area) earned the win, going 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and striking out 7.  Zach Conley (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) came on in relief for two innings of work, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and fanning 3.

Del Toro finished 3 for 3 with 4 RBI, Ramirez was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI and Angel Lopez (Santurce, PR/Perkiomen School) was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI as Northampton had 10 hits in game two.

The sweep moves Northampton to 14-3 overall as they prepare to travel to Montgomery County Community College on Tuesday for an EPAC single 9 inning game, starting at 3:30pm.
