Spartans Fall in Title Game to Cumberland

ASTON, Pa. - The Northampton baseball team fell to top-seeded Cumberland, 6-4, in the Region XIX championship game on Monday night at the Maplezone Sports Institute.  The victory propels the Dukes to the NJCAA World Series in Greeneville, Tennessee.

In a close game throughout, the Dukes took a 5-2 lead into the 8th before the Spartans plated two runs to make it 5-4.  Cumberland scored an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th and then shut down the Spartans in the top of the 9th to win their second Region XIX Championship (2014). 

It is the second runner-up finish for Northampton, which lost in the title game in 2011 to RCGC. 

The Spartans fall to 34-7 with the loss, while Cumberland improves to 53-6.
