Men's Soccer Falls to Delaware County, 4-3

MEDIA, Pa. - The Northampton Men's Soccer team dropped its first game of the 2017 season, falling to Delaware County Community College, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at Phantom Field.

Delaware County jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Juan Saravia and Alvin Lewis.

Andrew Tinna (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) answered for the Spartans off an assist from Tyler Eichelbaum (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth ) and then the Spartans tied the contest at 2-2 when Abdallah Ferdjani (/El Macir) found the back of the net off a pass from Tinna.

The 2-2 halftime deadlock was short-lived as Delaware's Shamour Young scored twice to give the Phantoms a 4-2 advantage.

Northampton cut the deficit to 4-3 as Tinna netted his 2nd goal of the game on a head ball, assisted by Eichelbaum.

The Spartans had a chance to tie the contest with a penalty kick late in the game, but the attempt went wide and the Phantoms held on for their first win over Northampton since September 27, 2014.

James D'Amato (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) made 12 saves for Northampton, as the Spartans were outshot 22 to 17.

The loss drops Northampton to 2-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in EPAC play, while Delaware improves to 2-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.

The Spartans are now off until Tuesday September 19th when they host EPAC rival Bucks County Community College at 3:30pm.
