BLUE BELL, Pa. - Montgomery County Community College ruined the return of Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy to the Northampton sidelines, downing the Spartans 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at Mustang Park.
Albert Ortiz scored 6 minutes into the game as the Mustangs jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead.
Omar Ahmed (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) scored Northampton's only goal off an assist from
Jose Aponte (Allentown, PA/William Allen ), as the Spartans dropped their 4th consecutive game.
"Too many lapses defensively really cost us," commented McCarthy who returned to the sidelines after stepping down at the end of last season, "MontCo really used their speed to beat us early and we struggled to posses the ball, but I saw some good things as the game went on as we began to control the tempo."
James D'Amato (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) recorded 6 saves for Northampton, which falls to 2-4-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the EPAC.
Montgomery improves to 5-2-0 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play.
McCarthy will serve as the interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season, replacing first year mentor Craig Root, who stepped down.
The Spartans are back in action next week when they host Valley Forge Military College at 3:30pm on Tuesday October 3rd.
