NEWTOWN, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team ran their winning streak to 10 games with a convincing 61-20 victory over Bucks County Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Cipriano Center.
The Spartans jumped out to a 37-9 halftime lead and cruised to the 41 point victory, holding the Centurions to less than 7 points in each quarter.
"Our defense continues to lead us," echoed Head Coach
Alyssa Bonenberger, "we were able to hold them to 15% shooting from the field and we had 15 steals, but we only had a slight advantage on the boards. We need to get a little tougher on the defensive boards, or it is going to cost us in a close game."
Dom Moser (Easton, Pa./Easton ) had a game-high 30 points and 5 steals, while
Krista Cappetta (Nazareth, Pa/Nazareth) added 10 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Laura Sweger (Elizabethville, Pa./Upper Dauphin ) finished with a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and
Nicole Robinson (Bangor, Pa./Bangor ) had 5 assists and 10 rebounds.
Northampton once again struggled from the field (38%) and had an off day at the line, converting only 3 of 13 free throw attempts. "We have been struggling to shoot from the field, Dom was able to find her mark from outside tonight (8 of 12 from behind the arc), but the free throw shooting will be a key factor in close games down the stretch.
The win takes Northampton to 12-5 overall, 9-1 in Region XIX and 8-0 in the EPAC.
Bucks falls to 2-14 overall, 2-11 in Region XIX and 2-6 in conference play.
The Spartans finally return home after a 4 game road trip to face Harrisburg Area Community College on Tuesday at 5pm.
