BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team got on the board early with a beautiful goal off a cross from
Ryan Allen (Newport News, VA/Peninsula Catholic (VA)) that
Ayouba Sheriff (Oreland, PA/Philadelphia City) headed home for a 1-0 Spartan lead, but Bucks County Community College responded with 9 unanswered goals to earn a 9-1 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
William Winters (Albrightsville, PA/Pocono Mt. West) made 16 saves in goal for Northampton, but the Centurions, who improved to 8-0-0 in conference play, were relentless in their attack. "We were pretty good the first 16 minutes," remarked Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "but we simply could not sustain our intensity and Bucks just kept coming in waves and was able to take advantage of a number of defensive breakdowns."
The loss drops Northampton to 4-7-0 overall and 4-6-0 in Region XIX, while Bucks improves to 10-4-0 overall.
The Spartans will be back in action Wednesday, as their game at Montgomery County Community College has been moved up a day to try and and avoid the rain predicted for the area on Thursday.
