MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The 3rd ranked Northampton Baseball team picked up their second victory of the season, downing Quinsigamond Community College, 9-4, on Monday at the Ripken Complex.
The Spartans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a 3-run homerun from
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mt. East ) in the bottom of the 1st and extended that margin to 7-0 after 4 innings, before closing out the 5-run victory.
Drew Jackson (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) earned the win on the mound with 2 innings of work, allowing 2 hits and no runs.
Dakota George (Palmerton, PA/Pleasant Valley) threw 3 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 2 and
Andrew Corso (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) finished the final 2 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1.
Peechatka had the hot bat, finishing 2 for 4 with a double and homerun with 4 RBI, while
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) was 1-2 with a 2B and RBI,
Tyler Horvath (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mt. East) was 1 for 2 with a RBI and
Ethan Smith (Easton, PA/Wilson ) finished 1 for 1 with a double as the Spartans had 8 hits as a team.
Quinsigamond finished with 4 runs on 6 hits and committed 3 errors, while Northampton plated 9 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error.
The Spartans, 2-1 overall, are back in action on Tuesday when they are scheduled to face Black Hawk College (IL) at 12:30pm and Jefferson Community College (NY) at 3pm.
Due to various rain delays throughout the day, the Northampton vs Mohawk Valley game was pushed back until later in the day, but the Spartans prevailed 14-0.
Zach Conley (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) threw a complete game 1-hitter, striking out 9 and walking 5.
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) was 2 for 3 with 5 RBI, including a double and a triple, while
Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School) added 3 hits as well.
The Spartans pounded out 14 hits and committed no errors in the shutout victory.
