SYRACUSE, NY - The 10th ranked Northampton baseball team dropped two games on Saturday at the Lazer Classic, falling to Herkimer 9-6 in game one and 4-2 to Onondaga in the second game.
GAME ONE vs. Herkimer - Lost 9-6Â
In their opening game of the Lazer Classic, the Spartans fell to Herkimer College, 9-6. Â The Spartans led 2-0 after 3.5 innings, but the Generals responded with 4 in the bottom of the 4th and never looked back.Â
Zach Conley (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) took the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season. Â Conley went 4 innings, allowing 7 runs (5 earned), giving up 7 hits while striking out 6 and walking 4. Â
Jake Decker (Hallstead, PA/Blue Ridge) went the final 2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 4 and walking 1.Â
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI,
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mt. East ) was 2 for 3 and
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) finished 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a RBI to pace the Spartan offense.Â
The Spartans finished with 6 runs on 10 hits and committed 4 errors, while the Generals plated 9 runs on 11 hits and had 3 errors.Â
GAME TWO vs. Onondaga - Lost 4-2
In game two the Spartans led 2-0 entering the bottom of the 3rd inning, before the Lazers tied the game and then plated a run in the 5th and 6th to take the 4-2 victory.Â
Noah Weber (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) took the loss on the mound, going 5 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, while fanning 5. Â
Andrew Corso (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) came on in the 6th inning and allowed 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 2.Â
CJ Gantz (Bath, PA/Northampton) was 1 for 1 with a run scored and
Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School) finished 1 for 2 as the Spartans only managed 4 hits.Â
The losses drop Northampton to 6-6 overall heading into day two of the Lazer Classic, where they will face Herkimer and Onondaga again on Sunday.Â
