BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Despite a 50 degree drop in temperature in 24 hours and the lingering potential for rain, Northampton and Camden County College were able to squeeze in a Region XIX doubleheader on Sunday at Spartan Park.
GAME ONE - WON 7-3 (9 innings)
The Spartans got the board first, plating two runs in the bottom of the 3rd, but it took a two-out RBI double from
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mt. East ) in the bottom of the 7th to score
Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School) and tie the game at 3-3 and send it to extra innings.
Cody Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) attempted to score from first base on the play, with what would have been the winning run, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
After a scoreless 8th inning, Peechatka (2 for 5, 5 RBI), drilled a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 9th to give the Spartans the thrilling victory.

Andrew Corso (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) recorded the win in relief of
Alex Super (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), going 2 innings, allowing no runs, no hits and striking out 1. Super's final line was 7 innings pitched, 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts.
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley) finished 3 for 4 with 2 doubles,
CJ Gantz (Bath, PA/Northampton) was 3 for 4, Del Toro 2 for 4 and
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) 1 for 3.
The Spartans finished with 7 runs on 11 hits and committed 2 errors, while Camden had 3 runs on 7 hits with 2 miscues.
GAME TWO - Lost 5-1
Despite out-hitting the Cougars 6 to 5 in game two, the Spartans could only manage to plate 1 run in a 5-1 defeat, ending Northampton's win streak at 10 games.
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) led the Spartans at the plate with a 2 for 3 showing, including a triple and a stolen base.
Cody Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) and
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley) each ripped doubles, and
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) and
Derek Stento (New Milford, PA/Blue Ridge) each had one hit.
Zach Conley (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) took the loss on the mound, going 5.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2.
Nicholas Klee (Reading, PA/Exeter) finished the game in relief, with 1.2 innings of work, allowing no runs and no hits.
The split puts Northampton at 16-8 overall and 2-1 in Region XIX, while Camden moves to 19-12 overall and 9-8 in Region XIX.
The Spartans are scheduled to host Middlesex County College on Tuesday in a 9-inning Region XIX tilt at 3:30pm.
