BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Despite the declining temperatures, the Northampton bats stayed hot, pounding out 17 hits in a 16-2 victory over Luzerne County Community College on Tuesday at Spartan Park.
After a 4-run 1st inning, the Spartans put up 10 runs in the 2nd, including 3 homeruns.
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mt. East ) hit a grand slam,
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) smashed a 2-run blast and
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) hit his first collegiate round-tripper to give the Spartans a 14-0 lead after two.
Dakota George (Palmerton, PA/Pleasant Valley) earned the win on the mound with 5 innings of 3-hit ball, allowing 2 runs, striking out 3 and walking 2.
Nicholas Klee (Reading, PA/Exeter) and
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) each pitched an inning in relief, combining to allow 2 hits and fan 2 batters.
Peechatka finished 2 for 4 with 5 RBI, hitting his second homerun of the game in the 4th inning, giving him a team-leading 7 on the season.
Stouffer went 3 for 4 with a double and 4 RBI, Dunleavy was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI and
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley) added 2 hits and 4 RBI to bring his season total to 48.
Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School) had 3 hits, while
CJ Gantz (Bath, PA/Northampton) and
Mike Ferrara (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mt. East) each added 2 hits and scored 2 runs.
The win moves Northampton to 21-10 overall and 4-3 in Region XIX.
Luzerne falls to 4-18-1 overall and 2-10-1 in the Region.
The Spartans are back at it on Thursday when they travel to Scranton, PA to face Lackawanna College in a single 9-inning contest at 3:30pm.
