ROCHESTER, NY - As the weather continues to wreak havoc on the Northampton Baseball schedule, Coach Yaguez and his troops found an opponent and a site to play as the Spartans headed to Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY for a 2-day, 4-game series.
Saturday - GAME ONE - WON 11-4
In the first game of the 4 game series, the Spartans used a 9-run 6th inning to overcome a 3-2 deficit and earn an 11-4 victory over the NJCAA Division II Tribunes.
Alex Super (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) earned the victory, improving to 5-0 on the season, as he struck out 5 over 6 innings work, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while walking 4.
Dakota George (Palmerton, PA/Pleasant Valley) pitched the 7th inning, allowing no runs and no hits while fanning one.
Mike Ferrara (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mt. East) led the offense with a 3 for 5 effort, including 2 RBI, while
Henry Peguero (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) hit his 4th homerun of the season and picked up 2 RBI.
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley) and
Derek Stento (New Milford, PA/Blue Ridge) each finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, while
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) was 1 for 3 with a double and a RBI.
The Spartans finished with 11 runs on 13 hits with 1 error, while Monroe had 4 runs on 6 hits with 2 errors.
Saturday - GAME TWO - WON 7-4
In game two, the Spartans used a 5-run 5th inning to overcome a 3-1 deficit and take a 6-3 lead that eventually led to a 7-4 victory.
Noah Weber (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) picked up the win, going 5 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 4 and walking none.
Trevor McGee (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) earned the save, pitching the final 2 innings allowing no runs on 1 hit and striking out one.
Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School) had the hot bat in game two, finishing 3 for 4 with a RBI, while
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mt. East ) was 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI.
Derek Stento (New Milford, PA/Blue Ridge) was 2 for 3 with a double, while
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) and
Henry Peguero (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) were both 1 for 4 with a RBI.
The Spartans finished with 7 runs on 11 hits and committed no errors, while the Tribunes plated 4 runs on 9 hits with no errors.
The teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday.
