SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - Leading 11-2 after 7 innings, the Northampton Baseball team held on for a 11-8 victory over Lehigh Carbon Community College on Tuesday afternoon, improving to 14-0 all-time vs. the Cougars.
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) got things started for the Spartans, smashing a two-run triple in the top of the 1st as Northampton plated 3 runs.
After LCCC got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning,
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) hit a two-run homerun in the 4th to put the Spartans back up by three at 5-2.
The Spartans added 2 runs in the 5th and 4 in the 7th, finishing with 16 hits.
Trevor McGee (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) earned the win on the mound, throwing 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs while walking 2 and striking out 5.
Nicholas Klee (Reading, PA/Exeter) came on in relief, going 1/3 of an inning, allowing 1 hit, 4 runs (3 earned), walking 3.
Zach Conley (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) relieved Klee, finishing the 8th inning, allowing no hits and no runs while walking 2.
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) took the mound in the 9th, allowing 1 hit and 2 runs (1 earned) while walking 1 and fanning 1.
Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School) led Northampton at the plate with a 3 for 5 effort, including a triple, stolen base and 2 RBI.
Dunleavy finished 3 for 4 with a double, triple, stolen base and 2 RBI, Stouffer was 2 for 5 with 4 RBI while
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley),
Derek Stento (New Milford, PA/Blue Ridge) and
Mike Ferrara (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mt. East) each finished with 2 hits.
Melko now has 61 hits on the season, just 5 short of the all-time Northampton single-season record of 65 set by Franklin Ramirez in 2017.
The win propels Northampton to 24-11 overall and 5-3 in Region XIX, while LCCC falls to 7-7 in Region and 11-17 overall.
The Spartans host NJCAA Division II Lackawanna College (22-12) on Thursday at 3:30pm in a single 9-inning contest.
