HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team opened the 2018 campaign with a 5-2 victory over Harrisburg Area Community College on Tuesday afternoon, giving Head Coach Mario Barrantes his first collegiate victory. 

Tied 2-2 at the half, the Spartans rallied for 3 unanswered tallies in the second half, dominating possession and outshooting the Hawks 18-5 for the game. 

"Overall, I'm very pleased," remarked Barrantes, "while we obviously still have a lot of work to do, I was very encouraged with some things I saw today and how hard the kids played given the conditions."

Andrew Tinna (Tunkhannock, PA /Tunkhannock Area) scored 2 goals to lead Northampton, while Abdallah Ferdjani (Algeria /El Macir), Andrew Seymour (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and Kevin Von Schmeling-Acosta (Easton, PA /Easton ) each added a goal to pace the offense.  

Matthew Doyle-Sochan (East Stroudsburg, PA /Duncan U. Fletcher High (FL)) recorded 3 saves in goal to earn the win and also picked up an assist, while Ayouba Sheriff (Oreland, PA/Philadelphia City ) and William Winters (Albrightsville, PA /Pocono Mt. West ) were also each credited with an assist. 

Harrisburg scored both of their goals on penalty kicks. 

Northampton, now 1-0 overall, will hit the road again on Thursday as they travel to Wayne, PA to face Valley Forge Military Academy at 3:30pm.
