WAYNE, Pa. - Despite a hat-trick from sophomore forward
Andrew Tinna (Tunkhannock, PA /Tunkhannock Area), the Northampton men's soccer team dropped a 6-4 decision at Valley Forge Military College on Thursday afternoon.
Tinna got the Spartans on the board in the first half off an assist from
Abdallah Ferdjani (Algeria /El Macir), as Northampton trailed 2-1 at the break.
Goalkeeper
Matthew Doyle-Sochan (East Stroudsburg, PA /Duncan U. Fletcher High (FL)) picked up 2 second half assists, giving him 3 on the season, as Tinna found the back of the net twice, along with a goal from Ferdjani, but it wasn't enough as the Trojans jumped out to a 6-2 advantage before the Spartans countered down the stretch with two goals.
"Give Valley Forge credit," commented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "they were big, fast and strong ... we had no answer for their front-line or midfield. I love that our kids kept fighting for the entire 90 minutes and never hung their heads, that is one of the real positives moving forward."
Doyle-Sochan finished with 5 saves as VFMC outshot Northampton 13 to 10.
The loss drops Northampton to 1-1-0 overall, while they remain 1-0-0 in Region XIX and EPAC play.
Valley Forge improves to 1-1-0 overall.
The Spartans are now off until Thursday September 6th when they host Lehigh Carbon Community College at 3:30pm in their home opener.
