DOVER, DE - The Northampton women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match-up vs. Delaware Tech on Saturday, falling 3-2, to the NJCAA Division II Hawks.
The Spartans took the opening set 25-20, but Del Tech evened the match with a 21-25 victory in set two. The Spartans regained momentum in the third set, winning 25-17, but Del Tech would not go away, winning the 4th set 18-25 and the match, 13-15 in set five.
"I'm surprised, but I'm not shocked," remarked Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "I have been saying all season that we are a different team than we have been in the past ... we are still trying to find our identity and today Del Tech simply made more plays than we did and deserved to win."
Madelyn Deloglos (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) had a team-high 11 kills, while
Bridget Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) filled the stat sheet with 9 kills, 8 aces and 12 digs.
Shaelyn Lopez (Long Pond, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) stepped in for
Savanna Jordan (Bath, PA /Bethlehem Catholic) and recorded 23 assists and 12 digs,
Abby Orth (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) had 10 assists, 6 aces and 6 digs and
Andrea Ceraolo (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) finished with 3 kills, 3 aces and 3 digs.
The loss drops Northampton to 3-3 overall, while Del Tech improves to 1-1.
The Spartans have a big week as they open up a home-stand, hosting Montgomery County Community College on Tuesday, Lehigh Carbon Thursday and Ocean on Saturday.
