BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After scoring a combined 3 goals in their last four games, the Northampton men's soccer team exploded for 8 goals on Thursday afternoon in an 8-0 victory over Harrisburg Area Community College.
Andrew Tinna (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock Area) scored 3 goals, giving him 10 on the season, and had 2 assists while
Kevin Acosta (Easton, PA/Easton) had a hat-trick of his own and 1 assist to lead the scoring for the Spartans.
Abdallah Ferdjani (Algeria/El Macir) and
Andrew Seymour (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) had the other tallies for Northampton, while Jacob Alamanzar was credited with 2 assists,
Angel Villeda (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) had 2 assists,
Xavier Garces (Bethelem, PA/Liberty) 1 assist and Seymour with an assist.
Matthew Doyle-Sochan (East Stroudsburg, PA/Duncan U. Fletcher High (FL)) and
William Winters (Albrightsville, PA/Pocono Mt. West) combined for 5 saves in earning Northampton's first shutout of the 2018 season.
"We did a good job controlling possession today," remarked Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "and our defense was very solid throughout, allowing us to get some great run out opportunities on the offensive end."
The Spartans improve to 3-5 overall, 3-4 in Region XIX and 3-2 in the EPAC.
Harrisburg falls to 0-5 overall, 0-4 in Region XIX and 0-4 in conference play.
Northampton is now off until September 25th when they host Valley Forge Military College at 3:30pm.
