BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a game that changed as fast as the weather, the Northampton men's soccer team fought back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to down Lehigh Carbon Community College, 2-1, in a weather-shortened contest on Thursday afternoon.
Playing in scorching conditions in the first half, the Cougars got on the board first, tallying their lone goal with 5 minutes remaining before halftime.
As a storm quickly approached during the second half, sophomore
Andrew Tinna (Tunkhannock, PA /Tunkhannock Area) tied the contest with 15 minutes remaining and then scored what proved to be the game-winner 3 minutes later. The game was eventually called with just over 5 minutes remaining.
"I thought we really turned it around in the second half," commented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "I thought we were slugglish early, but we made some nice runs and did a nice job defensively in the second half."
Andrew Doyle-Sochan recorded 6 saves in the goal to earn the win.
The Spartans, now 2-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Region XIX will host Middlesex County College (2-1-0) on Saturday at 1:30pm in the second-half of a women's/men's doubleheader.
