BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Northampton Women's Basketball team opened the second semester with an impressive 77-54 victory over Ocean County College on Thursday evening in the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Ashley Robinson (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) scored 19 points to lead five Spartans in double figures.
Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA/Bangor) (13),
Briana Petersen (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North) (11),
Kelsey Miller (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) (11), and
Jade Biviano (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua ) (10) joined Robinson as the Spartans shot 28 of 69 from the floor, including 8 3-pointers.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point, as the Spartans outscored the Vikings 28 to 11 to take a 63-35 lead entering the fourth quarter.
"I thought our defensive intensity was the key tonight," commented Head Coach
Alyssa Bonenberger, "the team did a good job with pressuring the ball and eliminating transition baskets."
Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA/Bangor) lead the Spartans with 9 rebounds and
Nicole Robinson (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) handed out a game-high 11 assists.
The victory moves Northampton to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the Region.
Ocean falls to 0-14 overall and 0-11 in Region XIX.
Northampton returns to the hardwood on Tuesday the 22nd when they host Luzerne County Community College at 5pm.
