BLUE BELL, Pa. - Entering the 4th quarter with a 40-37 lead, the Northampton women's basketball team was in prime position to pick up an important Region XIX road victory. However, Montgomery County Community College had other thoughts as they outscored the Spartans 23 to 6 in the final stanza to earn a 60-46 victory on Thursday evening at Mustang Arena.
"We had a complete meltdown in the 4th quarter," remarked Head Coach
Alyssa Bonenberger, "we completely went away from how we played the first three quarters, both offensively and defensively."
Briona McClain (Stroudsburg, PA /Pocono Mt. West ) led the Spartans with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while
Kelsey Miller (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) Ashley Robinson (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South) each added 8.
Briana Petersen (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ) finished with 7 points and 9 rebounds and
Mary Theresa Lehman (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Wyoming Seminary ) dished out a team-high 6 assists.
The loss drops Northampton to 4-5 overall, 1-4 in Region XIX and 1-2 in the EPAC.
Montgomery improves to 3-6 overall, 1-4 in the Region and 1-1 in conference play.
The Spartans are now off for a week before traveling to Binghamton, NY to face Broome Community College on December 12th.
