Spartans Go 1-1 on Day Three of Spring Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton baseball team went 1-1 on day three of their spring trip, falling to Spoon River Community College (IL), 4-3, and then rebounding to defeat Mohawk Valley Community College (NY), 15-5, in the nightcap. 

GAME ONE vs. SPOON RIVER (LOST 4-3)
Tyler Horvath (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) finished 2 for 3 and CJ Gantz (Moore Township, PA/Northampton ) was 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base, but the Spartans dropped their first game of the 2019 season, falling to Spoon River Community College, 4-3. 

Trevor McGee (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) took the loss, going 5 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 earned runs, while walking 5 and striking out 8.

GAME TWO vs. MOHAWK VALLEY (WON 15-5)
The offense came alive vs. Mohawk Valley in game two, as the Spartans rallied from a 5-5 tie in the 5th when CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mountain East) laced a bases clearing triple, after Chris Smith (Reading, PA/Exeter) had walked with the bases loaded to give the Spartans a 6-5 lead. 

Peechatka finished 4 for 5 with 5 RBI, while Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) went 4 for 4 with a RBI and 3 doubles.

Tyler Horvath (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) picked up the win on the mound with 3 innings of 1-hit baseball, holding the Hawks to no runs.  Mike Perreault was the starter, going 3 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned).

The Spartans, now 5-1 overall, return to action on Wednesday when they face Catholic University JV at 1pm, followed by Rochester Community & Technical College at 3:30pm.
