MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton baseball team continued their hot start to the 2019 campaign, picking up two more victories on Wednesday to improve to 7-1 overall.
GAME ONE vs. CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY JV (WON 9-5)
Trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the 4th,
Chris Smith (Reading, PA/Exeter) smashed a 2 run double and
Jake DiCesare (Barto, PA/Boyertown) added a RBI single to give the Spartans a 6-3 lead.
Brandon Ernst (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) added a 3-run homerun in the bottom of the 5th inning and
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) finished 4 for 4 to lead Northampton.
David Smith (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) earned the victory, going 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, striking out 6.
Dakota George (Palmerton, PA/Pleasant Valley) got 2 innings of work, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 3.
GAME TWO vs. ROCHESTER TECH (WON 6-3)
Northampton plated 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit, as
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mountain East) hit a grand slam to leftfield, followed by a RBI single from
Derek Stento (New Milford, PA/Blue Ridge).
Stento finished 2 for 2, Peechatka was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI and
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) had a 2 double and 2 runs scored.
Dunleavy earned the complete game victory on the mound, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while fanning 7.
The Spartans are back in action on Thursday at 12:30pm vs. Massasoit and 3:00pm vs. Queensborough Community College.
