BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton baseball team opened up Region XIX and EPAC play with a 13-0 win over Manor College on Tuesday afternoon in their home opener at Spartan Park.
Chris Smith (Reading, PA/Exeter) hit a 3-run homerun and
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to pace the Spartans, who jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings.
Trevor McGee (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) picked up the victory on the mound, throwing 4 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4.
Michael Perreault (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and
David Smith (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) finished off the final 3 innings, combining to allow 3 hits, no runs and fan 3 batters.
Tyler Horvath (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) added 2 doubles and
Starlin Solis Solano (Santo Domingo (DR)/International ) went 2 for 3 with with a double, two runs scored and a RBI.
The win propels the 6th ranked Spartans to 14-2 overall, 1-0 in Region XIX and 1-0 in the EPAC.
Manor falls to 2-8 overall, 0-1 in the Region and 0-1 in the conference.
Northampton returns to the field on Thursday when they travel to Camden County College to face the Cougars (11-3) in a single 9-inning game at 3:30pm.
