BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 7th ranked Northampton baseball team pounded out 36 hits and scored 48 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Broome Community College (NY) on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Park.
GAME ONE - WON 21-0
The Spartans scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and never looked back in winning game one 21-0.
CJ Gantz (Moore Township, PA/Northampton ) was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI,
Brandon Ernst (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) added a homerun and 2 RBI and
Joseph Galantini (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) finished 3 for 3 with 2 RBI as the Spartans had 15 hits in the win.
Trevor McGee (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) picked up the victory, striking out 6 and walking one.
GAME TWO - WON 27-0
The Spartans picked up where they left off in game one, pounding out 21 hits in the 27-0 victory.
Derek Stento (New Milford, PA/Blue Ridge) smashed a grand slam and finished with 7 RBI, while
Scott Rooney (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) also homered, finishing 3 for 4 with 5 RBI.
The Spartans hit five homeruns in the game, as
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North),
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mountain East) and
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) each added round-trippers.
Michael Perreault (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) earned the win, striking out 2 and walking 4.
Ethan Smith (Easton, PA/Wilson) and
Nick Klee (Reading, PA/Exeter) earned innings in relief, combining to hold the Hornets hitless in the game.
The win moves Northampton to 17-2 overall, while Broome falls to 1-3.
The Spartans are scheduled to travel to Toms River, NJ on Sunday to face Ocean County College in a doubleheader set for noon.
