MEDIA, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball team, ranked 3rd in the latest NJCAA poll, remained perfect in Region XIX play with a 10-0 victory over Delaware County Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Phantom Field.
The Spartans broke the game open in the top of the 3rd, scoring 5 runs, highlighted by a 3-run homerun from
Coy Walters (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford).
Northampton had 15 hits in the victory, led by Walters who went 3 for 5,
Scott Rooney (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, and
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) added 2 hits and a RBI.
Kyle Morin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) finished off the scoring for Northampton, lacing a RBI double in the 9th to put the Spartans up 10-0.
Brandon Walters (York, PA/Central York) picked up the win, improving to 5-0 on the season, throwing 6 innings of 4 hit ball, allowing no runs, while walking 1 and striking out 8.
Nick Klee (Reading, PA/Exeter) came on in relief of
David Smith (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) in the 7th inning, facing a bases loaded situation with 2 outs and got a strikeout to end the inning. Klee finished of the final two innings, striking out all 6 batters he faced, finishing the game with 2.1 innings of work, 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 walks and 7 strikeouts of the 7 batters he faced.
Spartan pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts in the shutout victory.
Northampton improves to 26-4 overall, 8-0 in Region XIX and 5-0 in the EPAC.
Delaware falls to 4-16 overall, 1-10 in Region XIX and 1-4 in conference play.
The Spartans have a non-conference matchup on Thursday in Scranton, PA when they face NJCAA Division II Lackawanna College (17-12).
