SCRANTON, Pa. - The 3rd ranked Northampton Baseball team saw their 7-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday, as the Spartans fell to NJCAA Division II Lackawanna College, 7-6.
The Spartans, who trailed 4-1 after two innings, rallied to take a 6-5 lead into the 7th, but the Falcons were able to score 2 runs in the bottom half of the 7th and then hold Northampton scoreless over the final two innings for the 7-6 victory.
Chris Smith (Reading, PA/Exeter) paced the offense with a 2 for 4 effort at the plate with 2 RBI, while
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mountain East) was 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI.
Jake Decker (Susquehanna, PA/Blue Ridge) took the loss in relief of starter
Trevor McGee (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem), with 2 innings of work, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 4 in falling to 0-1 on the season.
McGee went 4.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3.
Nick Klee (Reading, PA/Exeter) finished off the contest with 1.2 innings of work, allowing 0 runs, 0 hits and striking out 1.
Tyler Horvath (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) added a double and a RBI and
Brandon Ernst (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) knocked in a run for Northampton.
The loss drops Northampton to 26-5 overall, while Lackawanna improves to 18-12.
The Spartans are scheduled to host Bucks County Community College on Friday at 3:30pm.
