BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball, ranked 4th in the latest NJCAA poll, stayed hot at the plate, pounding out 19 hits in an 18-8 victory over Montgomery County Community College on Tuesday afternoon.
CJ Gantz (Moore Township, PA/Northampton ) led the offensive charge with a 5 for 5 effort with 4 runs scored and 3 RBI and
Brandon Ernst (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, a homerun and 2 RBI to pace the Spartans.
Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the 3rd inning, Northampton exploded for 10 runs highlighted by back-to-back-to-back homeruns from
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn),
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) and
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mountain East).
Stouffer finished 2 for 5 with 3 RBI, Dunleavy was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI and Peechatka went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI.
Brandon Walters (York, PA/Central York) improved to 3-0 on the season, going 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs while striking out 2 and walking 3.
Jake Decker (Susquehanna, PA/Blue Ridge) pitched the final 2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, fanning 4 and walking 2.
The win propels Northampton to 18-2 overall, 3-0 in Region XIX and 2-0 in EPAC play.
Montgomery falls to 7-3 overall, 1-2 in Region XIX and 0-1 in the conference.
The Spartans are back on the diamond Thursday when they host NJCAA Division II Mercer County Community College at 3:30pm.
