BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 3rd ranked Northampton Baseball team used 28 hits and 24 runs to sweep Valley Forge Military Academy on Sunday in an EPAC doubleheader at Spartan Park.
GAME ONE - Won 13-1
Alex Super (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) picked up the victory in game one with 5 innings of work, allowing 1 run (unearned), on 2 hits, while striking out 10 and walking none.
Michael Perreault (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and
David Smith (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) finished off the contest, combining to strike out the last six batters of the game.
The Spartans scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st, as
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mountain East) hit a solo homerun,
Tyler Horvath (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) had a RBI single and
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) smashed a 2-run homerun, all with two outs.
Peechatka finished 2 for 4 with a double and homerun (his 14th) and 2 RBI and
Jake DiCesare (Barto, PA/Boyertown) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
GAME TWO - Won 11-5
In game two,
Brandon Walters (York, PA/Central York) improved to 6-0 on the season with 5 innings of 1-hit ball. Walters did not allow a run and struck out 9.
Valley Forge scored 5 runs on a pair of Northampton relievers in the 6th, but
Nick Klee (Reading, PA/Exeter) was able to come on and shut the door, working the final 2 innings, allowing no runs, no hits and striking out 4.
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) led the offense with a 3 for 4 performance at the plate, including 2 doubles and 2 RBI.
CJ Gantz (Moore Township, PA/Northampton ) was 3 for 5 with a double, stolen base and 2 RBI,
Joseph Galantini (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) finished 2 for 4 with a RBI and
Kyle Morin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) added a single, RBI and 2 runs scored.
The Spartans improve to 32-6 overall, 13-1 in Region XIX and 9-0 in the EPAC.
Valley Forge falls to 1-7 overall, 0-6 in Region XIX and 0-5 in the conference.
Northampton hosts Delaware County on Tuesday at 3:30pm in a single 9-inning contest.
