BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Just hours after moving up to 2nd in the NJCAA national rankings, the Northampton Baseball team won their 6th consecutive game, downing Delaware County Community College, 10-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Park.
Brandon Ernst (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) got the Spartans on the board early with a bases clearing double in the bottom of the first and that is all Northampton pitchers
Jake Decker (Susquehanna, PA/Blue Ridge) and
Michael Perreault (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) would need, as they combined to shutout the Phantoms, allowing only 3 hits.
Ernst, who later hit his 11th homerun of the season, finished with 5 RBI, while
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) added two round-trippers (his 12th and 13th of the season), finishing 4 for 5.
CJ Peechatka (Henryville, PA/Pocono Mountain East) hit his 15th homerun of the season, breaking the Northampton single-season record of 14, which was held by Angel Lopez.
Decker finished with 5 innings of work, 0 runs allowed, 2 hits, 2 walks and 9 K's.
Perreault threw the final 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, no runs, 2 walks and striking out 3.
The Spartans, now 33-6 overall, 14-1 in Region XIX and 10-0 in the EPAC, are scheduled to host DII Lackawanna College (25-13) on Thursday at 3:30pm.
Delaware falls to 5-21 overall, 2-14 in the Region and 2-7 in conference play.
