BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 2nd ranked Northampton Baseball team wrapped up regular season play with a 7-2 victory over #9 Brookdale Community College on Monday afternoon at Spartan Park.
Noah Weber (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) improved to 8-0 on the season, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 6 in 5 innings of work.
Alex Super (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) came on in relief and held the Jersey Blues scoreless over the final 4 innings, striking out 6 and only allowing 1 hit.
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) got the Spartans on the board first, smashing a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
Brookdale responded with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd, but Northampton answered back with a run in the bottom of the 2nd off a RBI double from
Derek Stento (New Milford, PA/Blue Ridge).
The Spartans took the lead for good in the 4th when
Chris Smith (Reading, PA/Exeter) singled home a run to make it 3-2 Northampton.
Tyler Horvath (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) hit a 2-run homerun in the 6th, as the Spartans added 4 insurance runs to make the final 7-2.
Smith finished 2 for 3, Stento was 2 for 4 and Horvath was 2 for 4 to pace the Spartan offense.
The win moves Northampton to 35-8 overall and 16-2 in Region XIX.
Brookdale falls to 31-13 overall and 13-7 in Region play.
The Spartans will now wait to find out their playoff opponent, which they will host this weekend in a best two out of three series.
