BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team snapped their two-game losing streak with a convincing 3-1 victory over previously undefeated Montgomery County Community College on Thursday afternoon.
Jean-Claude Pabulo (Allentown, PA/William Allen ) got the Spartans on the board first, finding the back of the net, off an assist from
Jacob Almanzar (Bangor, PA /Bangor ), with just under 9 minutes remaining in the first half.
Jakob Raven (Hellertown, PA /Saucon Valley ) then gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead just before halftime, as
Stivan Kumbarov (Wind Gap, PA /Pen Argyl) found him with the pass and Raven converted with just 1:40 remaining.
Montgomery cut the lead to lead to 2-1, just 8 minutes into the second half, but Kumbarov scored an insurance goal just 5 minutes later off an assist from
David Trout (Saylorsburg, PA /Faith Christian ).
Northampton outshot their visitors 21-11, with Spartan goalkeeper
Nick Mazzella (Bangor, PA /Bangor ) making 7 saves.
The Spartans improve to 2-2-0 overall, 1-2-0 in Region XIX and 1-1-0 in the EPAC.
Montgomery falls to 2-1-1 overall.
Northampton is back on the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Lehigh Carbon to face the Cougars at 1pm, as part of a women's/men's doubleheader.
