BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team opened their 2019 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Penn St.- Lehigh Valley on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Jean-Claude Pabulo (Allentown, PA/William Allen ) opened the scoring for the Spartans with a break-away goal in the first half and freshman
Stivan Kumbarov (Wind Gap, PA /Pen Argyl) added two goals in the second half to lead the offensive charge.
Christian Reichert (East Stroudsburg, PA /E. Stroudsburg - North ),
Mehmed Letifov (Wind Gap, PA /Pen Argyl) and
Kerr Wilson (Easton, PA /Easton ) each registered an assist for Northampton, which outshot PSU-LV, 24 to 10.
Goalkeeper
Nick Mazzella (Bangor, PA /Bangor ) recorded 7 saves to earn his first collegiate victory.
"We missed a number of opportunities that we will need to convert if we want to reach our goals this season," remarked Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "we have a lot of things to work on, but overall it was a great win to open the season."
The win moves Northampton to 1-0-0 overall, while PSU-LV falls to 0-2-0.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday when they host 8th ranked Brookdale Community College, kick-off is scheduled for 12pm.
