Women's Tennis Set to Open 2019 Season on Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's tennis team will open the 2019 season on Sunday when they host Bucks County Community College at Northwood Racquet Club.

The Spartans, under 7th year Head Coach Megan Sell, will look to make a return trip to the NJCAA National Tournament, where last season they finished a program-best 5th in the country.

2018 was a banner season for Sell and the Spartans, as they finished with a 7-1 record during the regular season and then finished as Region XIX runners-up, earning the bid to the national tournament.  "Last season was a tremendous experience for the team," remarked Sell, "I had a great group of girls, who worked extremely hard and really exceeded our expectations."

The trip to nationals was the 4th in 6 years for Sell, who has guided the Spartans to a 37-19 record during her tenure, with 2 Region XIX runners-up finishes.

Northampton returns two players from the 2018 squad; Alyssa Kapcsos (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) and Sydney Schmall (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) along with newcomers Viktoria Swanson (Bangor, PA /Bangor ), Regan Gunn (Bethlehem, PA /Liberty ), Madison Haas (), Hanna Nicholls (Bethlehem, PA /Freedom ) and Morgan Putvinksi.

The Spartans will once again play their home matches indoors at the Northwood Racquet Club.
