BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In the fourth installment of the
Spartan Legend Series, we feature former women's volleyball and softball coach Kathy Carbone.

Carbone, a 2007 inductee in the Northampton Athletic Hall of Fame, led both the volleyball and softball teams to prominence during her tenure at Northampton.
Between 1976 and 1985 her volleyball teams won six Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) tournaments with an overall record of 150-63. In her last season of coaching volleyball the team finished undefeated in conference play. Coach Carbone's softball teams finished first in their league eight times and were Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association (PCAA) state champions four times between 1980 and 1994.
Kathy left Northampton for Muhlenberg, where she coached volleyball from 1986 to 1988. In 1989 she began a four year stint as Moravian College's volleyball coach. During her tenure, the Lady Greyhounds advanced to the MAC tournament all four years. Kathy completed her volleyball coaching career at Lafayette College, heading the Division I Patriot League program from 1996 to 2000.
"Kathy really set the stage for women's athletics at Northampton," remarked Director of Athletics
Troy Tucker, "she was the driving force, along with Bill Bearse, to provide opportunities for female athletes and turned the program into a powerhouse."
